Directions - WT Pinkerton and the Pinkertones

I don't spend all my time writing songs. Sometimes I spend my time writing really DUMB songs. Songs about some small event that's happening at that particular moment - no reason, I just start hearing words in my head.

That's what happened one day when I was in LA. I was on the phone with Emily's mom, getting directions to the restaurant where we were meeting for lunch. I did a show at Largo the night before and saw Evan Dando sing a song that had an old Hank Williams feel to it, so those two things kinda melded together and this came out.

Now, I usually don't record these tunes (or even remember them, for that matter), but my friend Mary O'Neill had just gotten a video camera, I had just gotten iMovie and we needed something to do with them. So that night, we called up our friend Shane Smith and did this.

A few things:
Yes, Shane Smith is the Shane of "Shane" from 'Safe in Sound', who also appears as a musician, engineer and producer on the album, and while it's me singing on this recording, it's HIM lip-synching in the video.

He came up with the character WT Pinkerton ("What's the WT stand for? White Trash. This here's my wife, TT Pinkerton. What's the TT stand for? Trailer Trash.") and shaved his beard into the white trash masterpiece mustashe / muttonchops look just for the video.. I think they call that method acting.

I think this video will make him a star. He's hilarious.

Mary shot it and I did the editing. This is a rough cut. Yes, there's no sound in the beginning. Oh, and the place really did look like a cottage.
