'Somebody to Love' added to regular rotation on WXPN Philadelphia
Well this is cool and unexpected. I was honored to be asked a few weeks ago to submit a recording of a song from 1976 to celebrate WXPN's Helen Leicht on her 30th anniversary on the radio. I chose Queen's 'Somebody to Love' and had a three day romp in the studio making the recording. Helen seemed to really like it, which was good enough for me, but now the powers that be at the station have decided to add it to their regular rotation.
What does this mean? Well, I guess that you are now in danger of hearing it on the station at any time and not just during Helen's show.
I guess it also means that you could call to request it (215.573.WXPN) or request it online. I wouldn't hate it if you did.
Thanks again to Helen for all her support over the years and Bruce Warren, Dan Reed and everybody at XPN as well.

i listen to xpn alot here at my bikehop, i sometimes, turn the dial over to wxtu, mostly to learn new guitar stuff from the country players, but as I swung back to xpn one day, I heard your queen remake and was taken back stunned at how you put your voice to that song. Not many people could do what you did. Great Job Jim, I mean that.

Jim, "added to regular rotation" doesn't begin to describe it. I think they are playing it more this week than The Hold Steady's "Chips Ahoy," and that's sayin' something.

I heard your version of "Somebody to Love" yesterday.
I heard the opening guitar riff (the piano intro of the orig) and it was one of those 'whoa!, I didn't know Brian May and company played an acoustic version'.
In any case I was captivated.
It didn't take me long to figure out it wasn't Queen; damn, what a great recording!
Great vocals and, even better, guitar work. But then I'm biased.
And still, I think Freddy's smiling in his grave.
I can only imagine how Helen feels.
